📣 Rewriting the Rules: Principles Over Protocols in Supporting PDA and High-Anxiety Individuals

Supporting Individuals with Pathological Demand Avoidance and High Anxiety

by the Happy Medium Approach
🧠 12 CEUs | 6-Week Live Training | Led by Rosalie Prendergast, MS BCBA IBA NL Level 1

A values-based, science-grounded training for behavior analysts supporting individuals with persistent demand avoidance and high anxiety.

This course reframes persistent demand avoidance as a functional response shaped by histories of aversive control, limited autonomy, and rigid social expectations. Drawing on the work of Skinner, Kantor, Goldiamond, Layng, Hayes, and Ciarrochi, the Happy Medium Approach blends contextual behavior science with compassion, consent, and collaboration.

You’ll learn to shift from coercion to connection — using tools like the Noticing Grid, Pendulum of Optimal Learning, People Files, and the modified Enhanced Choice Model to build emotionally safe, individualized supports across home, school, and community settings.

Whether or not you use the term PDA, this training will strengthen your ability to navigate complexity with clarity — while staying firmly within the 7 Dimensions of Applied Behavior Analysis.
